Keys to eight affordable new-build homes in Lavenham were handed over to Babergh District Council this month, with tenants now able to look forward to a New Year in their new homes.

The houses, in Norman Way, have been handed over to the council as part of a Section 106 agreement – a legally-binding arrangement made with a developer as part of the planning process to provide affordable council housing alongside private sale properties as part of new, growing communities.

The development consists of two one bed flats, one two-bedroom house, two two-bedroom bungalows, one three-bedroom house and two shared ownership homes, which will be prioritised for residents with a direct connection to the parish and local community.

Housing cabinet member Cllr Jessie Carter, Babergh deputy leader Cllr John Ward and ward councillors Paul Clover and Margaret Maybury were on hand to receive the keys from Malcolm Payne, Director Harthog Hutton.

Cllr Carter said: “It’s fantastic to see the site used to create these new homes in Lavenham. This latest development will be a welcomed addition in affordable housing provision, help to provide a great foundation for families who want to stay close to family and friends and help those wanting to take a step in owning their home. I wish all our future tenants security and happiness in their new homes.”

Supporting the council’s ongoing commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, the new homes have been fitted with PV solar panels – which converts the sun’s energy into free renewable electricity.
